Run the Rock

The 2012 Run the Rock Team received a very warm welcome at the Star of the Sea in Holyrood on June 15. The 12 members of the team who started their cross island run in Port Aux Basques on June 7th were very thankful for the reception that was shown from residents of Holyrood and area. The pride of being part of the group and supporting the wish of a child was very evident as each member introduced themselves and spoke about their participation in the run to all those in attendance.
Jim Joy Deputy Mayor of Holyrood who coordinated the welcome and fundraising on behalf of the town expressed thanks to the group for their super effort. An amount of $ 5,021 was raised on behalf of the run which goes to look after the wish of a sick child. This was a fantastic amount said Joy and the support shown by the community was phenomenal. He thanks everyone who contributed. Residents, business , town, fire department,Karen Dahle for the picture taking and the individuals who looked after the sponsor sheets all showed how they care about this special cause.
The Star of the Sea showed the part they continue to play in our community by donating the use of their facilities for a card game and the welcome with a lovely layout of food. The community based choir the cloudberries and local resident Ben Parrott provided some nice entertainment for the sailors from Her Majesty`s Canadian Ship ( HMCS ) St. John`s " Run The Rock " team .
Children’s Wish Organization and the Run the Rock team thanks the Town of Holyrood and everyone involved for helping to exceed all previous fundraising efforts. You all helped to look after the wish of a child and we are grateful.
