The Holyrood Volunteer Fire Department has been serving this community for over 40 years and thus far in 2005 has responded to more than 50 local emergencies including house fires, motor vehicle accidents and residential security alarms.

Support our dedicated Firefighters. Please donate to our local Fire Department. To donate contact Chief Chris Kieley (709-229-4593).

The Holyrood Fire Department is very active in our community. Recently, our firefighters volunteered to flood the local pond for outdoor family skating and serve hot chocolate to participants as part of our Crystal Carnival 2006 celebrations.

Firefighters Frankie Penny and D.J. Wall were two of the volunteers who assisted with this years Crystal Carnival 2006.

RECRUITING FIRE FIGHTERS

If you want to help people, work well with others, enjoy learning and are physically fit, you may be an ideal candidate for a fire fighter with the Town of Holyrood.

The firefighter's job
To be a Firefighter is both challenging and rewarding. Apart from fighting fires, you will perform many additional duties, some of which include:

  • search and rescue
  • educating the public about fire prevention
  • responding to hazardous material emergency situations
  • conducting inspections
  • responding to medical emergencies and motor vehicle accidents

You must be physically fit to handle the sustained, intense, physical effort often required to perform these duties.

Teamwork is everything, whether it is sharing routine tasks at the fire station or providing fire-fighting services at an emergency scene. Firefighters depend on each other to successfully perform their duties.

Fire fighting is not a 9-to-5 job. It is a 24 hours a day, seven days a week public service. It involves responding to emergency situations whenever required including nights, weekends and holidays.

The Town of Holyrood Fire Department trains every Monday night and welcomes anyone interested in becoming a Firefighter to drop by the station or contact Chief Chris Kieley (709-229-4593)
